Machine Readable Indian Passports
In accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization guidelines, Government of India has decided to introduce machine readable passports for Indian Nationals. Under the scheme ,these machine readable passports will be issued by a centralized point in India with effect from August 26,2007.
The Procedural details of the scheme are as under :
i. Applicants residing in Panama applying for the new Indian Passport have to apply online at website https://passport.gov.in . The form can also be accessed through the website of the Indian Embassy in Panama: Download Passport Application.
ii. Take a print out of the application form filled online.
iii. Copy of the application form, the relevant application fees and the original passport are required to be deposited in the Embassy.
iv. The online form filled by an applicant will then be transmitted electronically to India by the Embassy for processing and printing of the passports.
v. Passport Issuing Authority in India will ensure dispatch of the new passport within 10 days thereafter. Please click link for stepwise guidelines for filling the application form. Procedure for obtaining Miscellaneous Passport & Consular Services Applicants for miscellaneous Passport and Consular services are required to fill out appropriate form and submit their passports along with photocopies of their resident card or any other proof of their lawful residence in the jurisdiction of the Embassy.
The practice of endorsement of child's name on either parent's passport has since been discontinued and a new passport is issued to a (newborn) child initially for five-year duration. Photocopy of birth certificate, parents passports (containing spouse name), should accompany the application.
It is very important to note that a birth should be registered, in case a child is to acquire Indian citizenship, within 7 years, if both parents are holding Indian nationality (by birth) (at the time of birth and thereafter), and within one year if one of the parent is not an Indian citizen or one of the parent is Indian (by descent).
For change of name, applicant has to submit following documents along with application:
* Court order or notarized affidavit.
* Advertisement clipping of notice in the city of applicants present address.
* Advertisement clipping of notice in the city of applicants permanent address in India.
* Women applicants applying for change of maiden name are required to furnish, along with the application form and spouse passport, either of the following documents:
1. Marriage certificate
2. Sworn affidavit duly notarized.
For sending mortal remains to India for last rites etc., a copy of death certificate and a letter from mortuary stating the body has been embalmed properly and sealed in a casket, as per international norms, should be got attested from the Embassy. For sending ashes to India, a copy of the death certificate and a letter from the cremation site stating that the urn contains nothing else but the cremated remains of the deceased and it has been sealed properly, as per international norms, should be got attested from the Embassy. Passport of the deceased should be sent along with the relevant documents in the above cases.
