An event to commemorate 65th Independence Day of India was held at Indian Embassy in Panama. The Indian National Flag was unfurled by Indian Ambassador Shri Yogeshwar Varma at 0900 hrs. local time followed by singing of Indian National Anthem. He also read out the speech of the President. The function was attended by over 100 people including important dignitaries of Indian community, office bearers of Indian Associations and members of the Indian community. Light refreshments & sweets were served after the event.

In another function, at the premises of Indian Association, viz., Sociedad Hindostana de Panama, the Ambassador also unfurled the National Flag and addressed over 75 members of Indian community. The Sociedad Hindostana has a very large assembly hall adjacent to a magnificent Indian Temple (since 1990) where community events are regularly held.
