India herself
a developing country has undertaken various schemes
to share in her development experience acquired over
five decades of her existence as a free nation with
other developing countries the world over. One of such
programme is called Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation(ITEC)
programme.
Indian Technical and
Economic Cooperation Programme popularly known as "ITEC"
was launched in 1964. Under it and its corollary SCAAP(a
programme of assistance meant for Commonwealth Countries
in Africa) about 154 countries in Asia, East Europe,
Africa and Latin America are extended cooperation in
the form of training, deputation of experts, etc. India
spends about Rs.500 million or roughly about US $ 10
million annually on ITEC activities. Since 1964, India
has provided nearly US $2 billion worth of technical
assistance to developing countries.
ITEC has four components
- Training; Projects and project related activities
such as feasibility studies and consultancy services;
Deputation of experts; and Study tours. For details

Already many countries
in the Latin America region including Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua
have participated in this programme details of which

training assistance to various countries all over the
