Gems and Jewellery

Indian gems and jewellery have been acknowledged the world over for its exquisite craftsmanship. The country is a rich source of many precious and semi precious stones. India has also been the largest purchaser of gems stones, rough diamonds and precious metals for value addition and exports besides providing a large domestic market for jewellery and cut-diamonds. India’s international market share of diamonds is 55 percent by value. It is expected to achieve a market share of 60 percent in 2005 and 65 percent in 2010. The Indian gems and jewellery units have set up a worldwide network of offices, including in Europe, Japan, USA, South East Asia and the Middle East. India is the largest processor of diamonds in the world.
